More information on the MRA 2007 Conference

Weber State University Conference Meals

For the MRA 2007 Conference, you may either buy single meal tickets for breakfast ($5.15/meal), lunch ($7.45/meal), box lunches ($7.90/box) or dinner ($8.70/meal) that will be served during the conference at the Gallery in the Shepherd Student Union Building or sign up for a meal plan ticket ($32.00) which will allow you to eat 3 breakfasts (Fri., Sat., & Sun.); 1 box lunch (Sat.) and 1 dinner (Sun.) in the Gallery.

Your conference registration fee includes the opening reception on Thursday night (snacks and munchies); a lunch sponsored by Weber County Sheriff Brad Slater at Friday noon; and the banquet at the Eccles Conference Center on Saturday night. (PDF meals chart to help with your conference planning.)

Families may also sign up for a conference meal plan ticket with the same meals offered above. All of the above prices are special conference rates for the MRA Conference. If a family member would like to add the option of attending the Friday lunch, the price is the same as a single regular lunch meal ticket ($7.45). If family members wish to attend the Banquet, the separate Banquet price is $40 for each person.

What do you get for $5.15 for breakfast? A sample menu would include options on eggs, breakfast meat, fruit, cereal, juice, coffee, milk and muffin.

What’s in the box lunch? It is a Deli-Style box lunch with Turkey, Ham or Vegetarian sandwich plus a bag of chips, cookie and can of soda or bottled water. (The online description of the box lunch is much fancier and it really sounds like a nice box lunch ;-) Box lunches will be available for pick up in the morning before everyone takes off for the field sessions.

The advantage to getting the meal plan ticket is the convenience of paying for these meals all at once and the meals are very convenient to the conference meetings as they will be served especially for our conference in the vendor’s room throughout the pre-conference workshops and the conference. The advantage to buying your meals separately is that it allows you flexibility if you are rooming at the University Village where the suites have a kitchenette (see note below about cooking utensils) or for a change of pace you may decide to walk or drive to some of the surrounding restaurants off campus.

The Shepherd Union Building—where most of the classroom sessions and meals will be held will still be under renovation construction at the time of the conference. For that reason, we are not sure at this time whether there will be other restaurants open within the union building that would normally allow for a more diverse offering of menu choices. We will offer an update on this information as June draws nearer.

Are there cooking utensils, coffee pots, eating utensils and plates in the University Village apartment kitchenettes? At this time no. We are negotiating with conference services to provide some of these amenities during our conference but they will not currently commit to having them available. Our team will offer to provide paper plates and plastic utensils at the registration desk and we will update this document with more information as it becomes available.

As a point of information, it is about a 20 to 25 minute walk from University Village to the Shepherd Union building. There is also a free bus which runs from both lodgings and it is a 5 minute walk from bus the drop off point from the Shepherd Union building. WSU online maps, Google map

Pre-Conference Meals

Both the Technical Rescue Rigging and Wilderness First Aid pre-conference workshops have their own meal plans. The Technical Rescue Rigging meal plan ($26.10) includes 2 breakfasts and 2 box lunches. The breakfasts will be served at the Shepherd Union building and the lunch boxes will be available for pick up in the mornings before your leave for your classroom or field sessions. For the Technical Rescue Rigging workshop only, there will be a sponsored BBQ off campus for dinner on 6/20.

The Wilderness First Aid meal plan ($34.80) includes 2 breakfasts, 2 box lunches and 1 dinner. The breakfasts and dinner will be served at the Shepherd Union building and the lunches will be available for pick up before leaving for the classroom sessions.

On Thursday evening, conference registration will begin and there is a welcoming reception at the Shepherd Union Building with snacks and munchies.

Check-in for both pre-conference workshops is Tuesday, June 19. Dinner that evening may be purchased at the Gallery in the Shepherd Union building or on your own. There are restaurants within walking distance of campus as well a grocery store a couple of blocks away from the University Village.

Weber State University Housing

Promontory Tower

Due to a conflict with a football camp occupying the whole of Promontory Tower--we are no long offering this option for housing on Weber State. Everyone is encouraged to use the apartments at University Village and we will be setting up additional options for easy transportation to and from University Village and the Shepherd Union Building.

University Village

These apartments of suite style rooms, with kitchenette and bathrooms, are located further from the central campus, but still within walking distance. The suites are very nicely arranged with 4 bedrooms with two twin beds in each room and a central living room area and kitchenette with two bathrooms. At this point, there are no cooking utensils, pots or pans in the kitchenettes. Our team will make every effort to provide paper plates and plastic utensils at the registration desk and will encourage WSU conference services to provide some amenities to the kitchenettes by June.

All of the rooms in University Village apartment come with sheets, blankets, pillows, and towels.

4 bedroom suites with 2 baths, kitchen and common area

$25/person/room/night (you can select your apartment mates or leave that to us)

Weber State University’s summer dorm policies allow any conference delegates and their families to arrive early and/or stay after the conference at these very reasonable rates.
